5 TV Shows & Movies Filmed in Yorkshire

As you all know, Yorkshire is home to many great achievements and stunning locations, but in this list we will be telling you about 5 Famous TV Shows & Movies that were set in Gods Own County of Yorkshire;

1. Emmerdale (1972-Present)

It may come as some small shock to you that the Yorkshire Dales TV soap is actually set in Yorkshire! (I know, shocking!) The soap first hit our screens in 1972, back in the day the show was actually more Yorkshire orientated, this meant that everything had more of a Yorkshire theme, even to the point of Yorkshire accents being more noticeable. More modern episodes it is much more drama related rather than trying to put across a Yorkshire image to the viewer.

2. The Woman in Black (2012 film).

For those who don’t know, the Woman in Black is a supernatural horror film. Now i’m not saying that the whole of the film was made in Yorkshire but the village of ‘Crythin Gifford’ was filmed at Halton Gill, north of Settle in the Yorkshire Dales. With this being said I’d have eyes in the back of your head, just in case..

3. Heartbeat (1992-2010).

Heartbeat is a British police drama series set in North Riding of Yorkshire based in 1960s. Furthermore, it is based on the “constable” which are novels written by Peter N Walker, ex-policeman. Heartbeat proved popular from the beginning, when early series consistently drew over 10 million viewers – it is definitely one to watch.

4. Queenie’s Castle (1970-1972).

Queenie’s Castle is a British sitcom set in early 1970s. It is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The series became increasingly popular but came to an end in 1972.

5. Last of the Summer Wine (1973-2010).

Last of the Summer Wine is the longest running British Sitcom, written and created by Roy Clarke. The sitcom was filmed in Holmfirth in West Yorkshire England. This sitcom was also one of the most popular TV shows in the UK when in it’s prime. The TV programme centered on a trio of old men and their youthful misadventures – the people within the trio changed up to several times over the years.
