Best 5 Free Family Parks to Enjoy in Yorkshire

Before the summer’s out, you’ll want to make sure you take as much time as possible to be with your family in the sunshine. Alternatively, perhaps you’re a tired out Mum wondering where to take the kids to keep them amused. Maybe you’re broke from your luxury holiday but still want a quiet picnic. Luckily, Yorkshire is brimming with parks and nature spots for that perfect spot of last minute summer sun.

1. Greenhead Park – Huddersfield

This is a great park for small and big kids alike. With 3 different playgrounds dotted around and decent sized skate park, you have something to entertain all ages. In the summertime, you can take a dip in the paddling pool, and graze on lunch from either of the two cafes. There are tennis courts, a bowling greens, and a miniature railway, as well as beautiful Italian garden and duck pond to feed the birds!

2. Clifton Park – Rotherham

Clifton Park is a great versatile destination in South Yorks. It has a museum for a little culture, a play area for the small ones, gardens for the nature lovers, and Water Splash for those who like adventure. There is a cafe serving delicious food and Mini Golf for a fun family challenge.

3. Valley Gardens – Harrogate

Valley Gardens is absolutely stunning and offers a haven of natural beauty. It has English Heritage Grade II listed gardens, which make a peaceful backdrop to admire while listening to the summer Sunday afternoon concerts, played live in the park.

For the kids, you have a paddling pool, crazy golf, and a play area. For the slightly older children, you’ll find Pitch and Putt golf, tennis courts, and a boating pool.

4. Peasholm Park – Scarborough

Take a break from the beach by visiting this super fun park, awarded one of UK’s top 10 parks. You can get lost in the tree trail or marvel at the Lily pond. The Naval war display is an impressive site for those with an interest in history, while the putting green and Pitch and Putt course may be more appealing to the golf fans. Why not enjoy a refreshing ice-cream from the kiosk while you listen to the live open-air concerts at the bandstand?

5. Oakwell Hall Country Park – Batley

If you want to give you kids some wide open space to run around and see the whole cacophony of nature, try this country park. It is the ideal setting for family walks, with pond dipping for the kids and a playground to use up some energy. They have a whole bunch of family events they put on and offer picnic benches for easier family lunches.
